Fireball XL-5 - Space vehicle used on the science fiction puppet series FIREBALL  X-L5/SYN/1961. The Fireball X-L5 was a 300-foot spacecraft belonging to the World Space Patrol fleet which cruised sector 25 of the Solar System maintaining law and order. Its crew included Captain Steve Zodiac (voice of Paul Maxwell) and Robert (voice of Gerry Anderson), a 22-inch-high transparent robot co-pilot who heated up and smoked in tense situations. The XL5's main body was bullet-shaped with two fin-shaped wings tipped with stabilizer rockets (shaped like the front of a surf board). Its detachable nose cone was called the Fireball Junior. Both crafts were able to take-off and touch-down on planet surfaces. The XL5 was equipped with defensive nutronic missiles. The series theme song proclaims romantically the wonders of space flight.

  I wish I was a spaceman,
The fastest guy alive.
I'd fly you 'round the universe
In Fireball X-L5
Way out in space together
Conquerors of the skies
My heart would be a fireball, a fireball
Every time I gaze into your starry eyes
We'd take a path to Jupiter
And maybe very soon
We'd cruise along the Milky Way
And land upon the moon
The wonderland of stardust
We'd zoom away to Mars
My heart would be a fireball, a fireball
'Cause you would be my Venus of the stars.
