Satellite of Love
- Doggy-bone shaped satellite seen on the science
fiction spoof series
MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
/COM/1989-96/SCI/1997-1999.

The Satellite of Love (SOL) is the involuntary home of
Joel Robinson who was kidnapped by mad
scientists Dr. Clayton Forrester and Dr.
Laurence Erhardt (a.k.a. "The Mads") and placed in
orbit around earth to watch very bad movies.
Later in the series, a guy named TV Frank
replaced Dr. Erhardt as Forrester's partner in
crime.

To alleviate his boredom Joel built a variety of
robotic friends from spare parts found in the
satellite to keep him company,
including robots
Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Cambot.
Also on board was a unseen voice named Magic
Voice.
One of the main features of the Satellite of
Love was The Mystery Science 3000 Theater, a
large room that contained a projection screen
where bad science fiction movies were shown. The
movies were part of an experiment to see if a
person would go mad watching such media.
To stave off insanity, Joel and his friends, who
are seen in silhouette at the bottom right-hand
of the screen, would regularly mock the movies
with off-screen commentary.

Eventually, Joel escaped his captivity with the
help of Gypsy. To continue their bizarre
cinematic experiment, the Mad Scientists
kidnapped Mike Nelson, who happened to be in the
employ of Dr. Forrester at the time.
At the end of season 10, the Satellite of Love
fell from orbit and crash-landed near Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Mike and his friends survived
the ordeal and moved into an apartment where
they continued to watch awful sci-fi
movies.
