The Baron - The
nickname of American born John Mannering (Steve
Forrest) who worked undercover for British
Intelligence on the spy drama THE BARON/ITC/1966.

His nickname "The Baron" was derived from the
name of his family's Texas Ranch (Baron Brand)
where he spent his childhood. The Baron drove a
Jensen automobile, (license: BAR 1).
When The Baron was not on assignment as a spy,
he supervised a
chain of fine antique stores in London,
Paris and Washington, DC.
The character was based on the novels by John
Creasey, (written under pseudonym of Anthony
Morton), the first of which was Meet The
Baron (1937). In the original novels, the
Baron was an Englishman and ex-jewel thief.

TRIVIA NOTE:
Steve Forrest played Wes Parmalee on the prime
time soap DALLAS. One of the 1986 episodes
(#232) in which he appeared was entitled "Who's
Who at the Oil Baron's Ball?"
