Choo
Choo Charlie - Youthful engineer featured in the 1960 TV cartoon
commercial (created by Bauer & Tripp ad agency) for Good and Plenty candy (candy coated licorice).

The commercial starred a little
boy called Choo-Choo Charlie who wore an engineer's cap and rattled a box of
Good and Plenty candy for the sound of his imaginary locomotive. His girl friend
in the commercial helped sing the lyrics and interjected "Charlie says."
The Choo Choo Charlie character first appeared in advertisements in 1950 but
stopped running in the mid-sixties. The commercial's jingle lyrics revealed:
Once upon a time there was an engineer
Choo Choo Charlie was his name, we hear.
He had an engine and he sure had fun
He used Good & Plenty candy to make his train run.
Charlie says "Love my Good & Plenty!"
Charlie says "Really rings my bell!"
Charlie says "Love my Good & Plenty!"
Don't know any other candy that I love so well!
To make
the sound of the train whistle, buyers of Good and Plenty candy could blow
through the empty box. The Good and Plenty TV ads were animated by UPA Studio.
