Jim Bowie with KnifeBowie Knife - Large knife featured on the western series THE ADVENTURES OF JIM BOWIE/ABC/1956-58. Set in the Louisiana Territory of the 1830s this western, based on the book Tempered Blade by Monte Barrett, was the story of adventurer Jim Bowie (Scott Forbes) who carried a knife instead of a gun. According to legend Jim Bowie invented the longer, stronger Bowie knife (actually created by his brother Rezin Bowie (played by Peter  Hanson) when his smaller knife broke against the tough hide of a grizzly bear. Later in his life, Jim's Bowie famous knife was at his side as he died defending the Alamo mission against the Mexican Army.

TRIVIA NOTE: The state of Arkansas is nicknamed the Bowie State because during its early days many of its residents carried a Bowie knife; it was also called the Toothpick State because early settlers used Bowie knives (a.k.a. "Arkansas Toothpicks") to pick their teeth.

TV Series Theme Song

Opening Lyrics

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie, (boo-EE)
he was a bold adventurin' man.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
Battled for right with a powerful hand.

His blade was tempered and so was he,
indestructible steel was he.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
he was a fighter, a fearless and mighty adventurin' man.

 Closing Lyrics

Adventurin' man. Adventurin' man.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
he roamed the wilderness unafraid
from Natchez to Rio Grande.

With all the might of his fleeting blade,
he fought for the rights of man.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
he was a bold adventurin' man.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
battled for right with a powerful hand.

His blade was tempered and so was he,
indestructible steel was he.

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie,
he was a fighter, a fearless and mighty adventurin' man.
