Nick Adams starred as Johnny Yuma, an
ex-Confederate Army private who roamed the post
Civil War West of the late 1860s in search of a
new life.
Born in the town of Mason, Johnny aspired to
be a writer. His mother died when he was young.
At the age of 15, Johnny ran away from home and
joined the Confederate Army. At the end of the
Civil War, Johnny became a drifter. He still
wore his rebel cap and uniform proudly.
As he roamed through the west, Johnny carried
a diary (his "Book") in which he recorded
his thoughts and adventures. Johnny rides
the horse that belonged to this late father, Ned
Yuma, a marshal killed in the line of duty. Also
in his possession was his father's scattergun.
Like his father, Johnny had a strong sense of
justice and helped those in need as he traveled
from town to town.

Theme Song Lyrics
The Ballad of Johnny Yuma
(by Andrew J. Fenady and Dick
Markowitz)
Away, away, away rode the rebel, Johnny Yuma.
Johnny Yuma, was a rebel,
He roamed, through the west.
And Johnny Yuma, was a rebel,
He wandered alone.
He got fightin' mad,
This rebel lad,
He packed his star as he wandered far
Where the only law was a hook and a draw, the rebel.
(Away, away, away rode the rebel.)
Johnny Yuma, was a rebel,
He roamed, through the west.
And Johnny Yuma, was a rebel,
He wandered alone.
He searched the land,
This restless lad,
He was panther quick and leather tough
Cause he had figured that he'd been pushed enough, the rebel.
(Away, away, away rode the rebel.)
Johnny Yuma.
Johnny Yuma, was a rebel,
He roamed, through the west.
And Johnny Yuma, the rebel,
He wandered alone.
He was fightin' mad,
This rebel lad,
With a dream he would hold until his dying breath
He would search his soul and gamble with death.
Away, away, away rode the rebel, Johnny Yuma.
