BARBARY COAST/ABC/1975-76
- Set in San Francisco's Barbary Coast during the 1870s, this was the story of an unlikely alliance between gambler Cash Conover (Doug McClure) the owner of the Golden Gate Casino and Jeff Cable (William Shatner), a special undercover agent and master of disguises who worked for the Governor's office. (60 Minutes) 

BAT MASTERSON/NBC/1959-61 - Gene Barry starred as the dandy with a derby hat and cane, William Barclay "Bat" Masterson (1853-1921), a gambler, frontiersman and US Marshal of Dodge City in the late 19th century. (30 Minutes) TRIVIA NOTE: W. B. Masterson spent his latter years working as a sportswriter in New York City. 

BEST OF THE WEST/ABC/1981-82 - Western comedy about Sam Best (Joel Higgins), a Civil War veteran who traveled west with his wife and son to the frontier town of Cooper Creek where he became the town Marshal. (30 Minutes) 

BIG GUNS TALK: THE STORY OF THE WESTERN/TNT/1997 - Narrated by James Garner, this two-hour made-for TV movie examined such themes as gunfighters,  Indians, frontier women, the showdown, and the hangman's noose.

BIG HAWAII/NBC/1977 - Contemporary adventure set on a sprawling Hawaiian ranch owned by Barrett Fears (John Dehner) and family. The program chronicled the difficulties of running a modern ranch amidst the lush beauty of the South Seas. This is about as far west as you go for a western. (60 Minutes) 

THE BIG VALLEY/ABC/1965-69 - Barbara Stanwyck starred as Victoria Barkley, the matriarchal head of the Barkley clan and owner of a 30,000 acre ranch located a few miles outside the 1870s town of Stockton, California in the San Joaquin Valley. Assisting her were four adult children Jarrod (Richard Long); Nick (Peter Breck); Heath (Lee Majors); and daughter Audra (Linda Evans). (60 Minutes) 

BLACK SADDLE/NBC/ABC/1959-60 - Peter Breck starred as Clay Culhane, a reformed gunfighter turned lawyer who traveled the New Mexico territory of the late 19th century trying to settle disputes with law books instead of a gun. (30 Minutes)

BONANZA/NBC/1959-73 - Set in the 1860s, this was the story of patriarch Ben Cartwright (Lorne Green) and his three adult sons-half-brothers, Adam (Pernell Roberts), Eric "Hoss" (Dan Blocker) and Little Joe (Michael Landon) who ran the Ponderosa, a thousand square mile ranch near Virginia City, Nevada. BOOTS AND SADDLES/SYN/1957 - The story of the American 5th Cavalry stationed at Fort Lowell in the Arizona Territory of the 1870s. Jack Pickard starred as Captain Shank Adams; and Michael Hinn costarred as veteran Indian scout Luke Cummings. The program title was derived from the traditional "bugle call" used to summon soldiers to their horses. Filmed on location in Kanab, Utah. (30 Minutes) 

BORDERTOWN/FAM/1988-91 - The story of law and order in the 1890s northern bordertown where the US-Canadian border ran down the middle of the main street. Royal Mountie Corporal Clive Bennett (John H. Brennan) and US Marshal Jack Craddock (Richard Comar) maintained the peace. Both courted the attentions of the lovely Marie Dumont (Sophie Barjac), the town's physician. (30 Minutes) 

BORN TO THE WIND/NBC/1982 - Life of the North American plains Indian before the coming of the White man starring Will Sampson as tribal leader Painted Bear; and Linda Redfern as his squaw Prairie Woman. (60 Minutes) 

BRANDED/NBC/1965-66 - Chuck Connors starred as Jason McCord, a Cavalry officer who was unjustly "branded" a coward and dismissed from the service. Wandering the Old West of  the 1880s he tried to live down the false allegation. (30 Minutes) 

Keith Larsen as Brave EagleBRAVE EAGLE/CBS/1955-56 - Set in the Southwest of the 19th century, Keith Larsen starred as Brave Eagle, a young Cheyenne chief who faced the challenges of daily life with neighboring tribes and White men in the Southwest of the 19th century on the western adventures BRAVE EAGLE/CBS/1955-56. His fellow Indians included Keena Nomkeena, a full-blooded Indian boy of Hopi and Klamath descent, as Brave Eagle’s adopted son; Kim Winona, a full-blooded Sioux, portraying Morning Star, and tribal maiden and Brave Eagle's love interest; and Bert Wheeler as Smokey Joe, the sage half-breed Scout. Brave Eagle rode a stallion named White Cloud. Produced by Roy Rogers’ Frontier Productions, the series was filmed on Roy Rogers’ 130-acre ranch in Chatsworth, California and the Corriganville Ranch in Simi Valley. The BRAVE EAGLE series was the first TV series to feature an American Indian as a lead character. (30 Minutes). TRIVIA NOTE: The real name of the actor who played Brave Eagle's son, Keena is Anthony Earl Numkena, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona. According to a email sent to TV ACRES: "The change came about as a result of Mr. Michael North, the executive producer (who) changed the name to Keena to fit the part in the series.  He also felt the name Numkena (a Hopi name) looked too oriental and changed it to Nomkena.  In the later episodes it was changed to Numkena. The name Keena remained."

BRAVESTARR/SYN/1987 - Set on the planet of New Texas, this Western/Science Fiction tale follows the adventures of 24th century lawman Marshall Bravestarr as he uses his superpowers to maintain law and order. His friends included his talking horse, Equestroid; his diminutive alien sidekick, Deputy Fuss; and a female magistrate Judge B.J. (30 Minutes)

BRET MAVERICK/NBC/1981-82 - Revival of the classic western series MAVERICK from the 1950s starring James Garner in his original role of frontier gambler, Bret Maverick now living near the  town  of Sweetwater, Arizona. (60 Minutes) 

BROKEN ARROW/ABC/1956-60 - Set in the Arizona Territory of the late 19th century where white settlers and Apache Indians maintained a tenuous peace, Michael Ansara starred as Cochise and John Lupton as Tom Jeffords, an Indian agent. The series was based on the novel Blood Brother by Elliot Arnold and the 1950 movie of the same name starring James Stewart. (30 Minutes) 

BRONCO/ABC/1958-62 - Ty Hardin starred as Bronco Layne, an ex-Confederate Army officer who sought out adventure in the days following the Civil War. (60 Minutes) 

BUCKAROO 500/SYN/1963 - Variety series with host Buck Weaver introducing acts in a Western setting. (30 Minutes) 

BUCKSKIN/NBC/1958-59 - Set in the town of Buckskin, Montana in the year 1880, this western series was the story of Jody O'Connell (Tommy Nolan), a ten-year-old boy who lived with his mother, Mrs Annie O'Connell (Sallie Brophy) at their frontier boardinghouse. (30 Minutes) 

BUFFALO BILL, JR./SYN/1955 - Adventure series centering on Buffalo Bill, Jr. (Dick Jones) and his sister Calamity (Nancy Gilbert), two adopted waifs living in the town of Wileyville who helped tame the Old West with the help of their guardian, Judge Ben Wiley (Harry Chesire). Produced by Gene Autry's Flying "A" Productions. (30 Minutes) 

BUFFALO GIRLS - Filmed in New Mexico and England, this TV-Movie adaptation of Larry McMurtry's novel followed the friendship between Calamity Jane (Anjelica Houston), a frontier sharpshooter and Dora (Melanie Griffith), a bordello owner as they lived and loved during the American West of the mid 1870s. Broadcast 4/30/95 and 5/1/95. (4-Hours) 

BUFFALO SOLDIERS/TNT/1997 - Made for TV-movie starring Danny Glover as the leader of an all-black regiment of cavalry troopers dubbed "The Buffalo Soldiers." As they chase a group of Indians through the New Mexico Territory, they are confronted with the question posed by Victorio, an Apache warrior who asked "Why do you murder my people for those (Whites) who made you less than cattle?"
